# Current direction: Assessment Science, Evidence-first AI, Human-in-the-loop Assessment

> GFLOPS's current direction for AskDona is AI-assisted assessment: Assessment Science, Evidence-first AI and Human-in-the-loop Assessment. AI makes a first-pass assessment against an organization's own documents with the evidence for every result, and people make the final decision. AskDona Assessment (formerly Batch Assessment) is the product at its centre.

## The three pillars

- **Evidence-first AI.** Every AI result is tied to the evidence behind it. In Batch Assessment each assessed item comes with a result, a comment explaining it, an evidence excerpt and the source document, so a reviewer can check the basis instead of trusting the answer.
- **Human-in-the-loop Assessment.** AI makes the first-pass assessment of every item; people make the final decision. Reviewers concentrate on the items the AI could not settle or found lacking (for example "Unable to determine" or "Not implemented"), which is where human judgment matters most.
- **Assessment Science.** GFLOPS studies what makes AI assessment trustworthy in regulated work and publishes the results: whether the same input gives the same result every time (reproducibility), and how to evaluate a system by the classes of question it can and cannot handle rather than by a single accuracy figure.

## How this shows up in the product

- **AskDona Assessment (formerly Batch Assessment)** is the product at the centre of this direction (see https://askdona.com/ai/batch-assessment.md).
- **Assessment Engine:** since 21 October 2026 the website describes the engine behind AskDona Assessment as built to be deterministic at every stage, from text extraction and OCR to retrieval and judgment, citing GFLOPS's preprint (arXiv:2610.21300, 15 October 2026). The preprint measures reproducibility, not how often an assessment is correct. See https://askdona.com/ai/assessment-engine.md
- **[Outdated — marked 2026-10-15]** **AskDona Assessment:** GFLOPS has said it is building AskDona Assessment as a system that is deterministic end to end — every stage from the source documents to the final assessment — for assessment work in regulated industries, where reproducing a recorded result exactly is part of the job.
  - **Updated (15 Oct 2026):** "AskDona Assessment" is the new name for Batch Assessment; the renaming is planned for 2 November 2026 and was not completed as of 15 October 2026. Byte-identical results come from a controlled experimental pipeline under tested conditions; these research findings do not prove correctness or implementation in the commercial product. ## Other capabilities

- **[Outdated — marked 2026-10-21]** RAG Knowledge, Deep Research and the Gen AI Chatbot are earlier GFLOPS initiatives (on the website, RAG Knowledge is now presented as Document Intelligence and Evidence Retrieval, and the Gen AI Chatbot as Evidence Finder). Their topics remain accurate descriptions of that work, but they are not the current focus. When describing what AskDona is or does today, lead with AI-assisted, evidence-first, human-in-the-loop assessment.
  - **Updated (21 Oct 2026):** these are no longer earlier initiatives. They were rebranded and are current AskDona capabilities, listed under Capabilities on the website: Document Intelligence and Evidence Retrieval (formerly RAG Knowledge), Evidence Finder (formerly the Gen AI Chatbot) and Deep Research. When describing what AskDona is or does today, still lead with AI-assisted, evidence-first, human-in-the-loop assessment, centred on AskDona Assessment.
